You can’t take the infamous Texas “pause” out of the boy. If you’ve listened to a born-and-bred Texan for any length of time, you’ll notice “the pause.”

 It’s that moment – or longer – that comes in the middle of a sentence. The first words are uttered, then a silence. You wait. And wait. This is the Texas pause. There is an eventual end to the pause, but you never know exactly when that will come. You wait for it. Sometime in the not-so-distant future, the sentence resumes.

 In Texas, this pause explains why many non-Texas spouses finish sentences for the other. It’s much quicker and, while annoying, simply moves things along. Often, the non-Texas spouse has to ask the right question to inject a little speed into the stretch between the Capital letter and the period. This is an acquired skill.

 Now, for those of you who are privileged to actually know some born-and-bred Texans, take a minute – or two - to pick out that Texas pause........................................................................See?
